Shiatsu means “finger pressure,” and is a type of Japanese bodywork. Seitai means “full body,” and is a form of Shiatsu used to promote circulation of blood and lymph fluid to help balance the chakras, or energy fields, of the body and mind by triggering the body’s own natural healing powers.
Tui na, integral to traditional Chinese
medicine for over 2,000 years, uses acupressure to balance the energy fields
(chakras) of the body. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press and rub the
areas between each of the joints (known as the eight gates) to get the body's
natural healing energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles.
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) uses
manual static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique
manipulates the soft tissues to balance the central nervous system. Healthy nerves transmit impulses to the body slowly but injury, trauma, bad posture or stress cause
nerves to speed up transmission resulting in pain and dysfunction. NMT stabilizes
low levels of neurological activity to maintain normal function and overall health.
"Swedish Massage" refers to a variety of
massage techniques designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them
against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow
of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage helps to shorten recovery time
from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of metabolic wastes and improving
circulation without increasing heart load.
Deep tissue aims at the deeper, connective tissues of muscles and fascia and applies many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish Massage but the pressure is more intense. It is also more focused in order to release chronic muscle tension or knots.
By treating muscles that have
shortened from repetitive use, over-use, or trauma, Soft Tissue Release Training
(STR) is a 'cutting edge' approach to acute and repetitive strain injuries and chronic
pain syndromes such as carpal tunnel, whiplash, sciatica and knee pain.
This modality employs techniques designed to nurture you through the birthing experience. Beneficial for both mother and baby.
